Avenue City Students Showing Patriotism
The eleventh day of September of each year shall be known as "Emergency Services Day" and was set apart as a day of acknowledging with special gratitude and profound respect, all public personnel, including police, firefighters, ambulance personnel, emergency dispatchers, and correction officers.
The United States flag and the state flag were flown at half-staff on September 11th in honor of the individuals who died as a result of the terrorist attacks against the United States on September 11, 2001.
Many of the Avenue City School students wore red, white, and blue on this day. Many teachers taught about community heroes, September 11, 2001, and other patriotic lessons.
The 6th graders at Avenue City School presented a short reading titled "Lady Liberty" for the entire school from 8:05-8:15 AM.
The ACES student body took part in a short "flag raising ceremony" conducted by the 5th graders from 10:45-11:00 at the flagpole. During this ceremony, the entire school said the Pledge of Allegiance. Students who have family in the military or work as emergency personnel in the community were recognized. Students were outside around the flagpole as a military plane flew over.
It was an awesome day to recognize and acknowledge the heroes of our community.
