Patriot Day 2017
Patriot Day is an annual observance on September 11 to remember those who were injured or died during the terrorist attacks in the United States on September 11, 2001. The 2017-2018 Student Council arranged for a school wide assembly on Monday, September 11.
Before the assembly all classes learned about patriotism and heroes. At the student-led assembly, poetry was recited, there was a moment of silence, students sang patriotic music, and local heroes (military personnel, first responders, and veterans) were recognized. Captain Brian Barnette and his wife Amy read the student body a book about C-130 and presented a slide show about his recent deployment and how September 11, 2001 impacted his life. Once the assembly was over, the local heroes lined up and every student in school shook hands and thanked them for their service.
Avenue City School Staff and Students are forever grateful for those who serve our nation.
