NEW IMMUNIZATION GUIDELINES FOR 2010-2011

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services have revised the Immunization Requirements for school children. Effective beginning the 2010-2011 school year the following newrequirements will be implemented:

*All children entering Kindergarten will be required to have a second dose of the Varicella (chickenpox) vaccine.

If the child has had the varicella (chickenpox) disease, a licensed MD or DO will need to sign a written statement documenting the month and year of the previous varicella (chickenpox) disease as satisfactory evidence of having had the disease. Parental or guardian statements of the disease will no longer be accepted.

* All incoming eighth (8th) grade students will be required to have a Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) vaccine if they have completed the recommended childhood DTap/DTP vaccination series and have not received a TD booster within the past two (2) years.

For children enrolled in grades nine (9) through twelve (12) who have not received a single dose TD, it is highly recommended they receive a single dose Tdap as their catch-up booster.

It is advisable that you contact your physician or health department before August to see if your child needs any additional immunizations.

You may contact the Andrew County Health Department at (816)324-3139 for FREE immunizations.
