Dear Parents, Guardians, and Staff,
Following this morning’s safety measures, we are providing an update regarding the soft lockdown and the subsequent investigation conducted in coordination with the Andrew County Sheriff’s Office.
Our joint investigation determined that the incident originated from a series of harassing "prank" phone calls made by a group of middle school students to an unknown individual. These calls have reportedly been occurring intermittently since December.
This morning, a student placed another call to this individual while on the school bus. During the exchange, the individual responded with a verbal threat directed toward the students.
Current Status
Law enforcement has thoroughly vetted the situation and confirmed there is no active danger to our students or staff. As a result:
The soft lockdown has been lifted.
The school day is proceeding according to its normal schedule.
Student involvement is being addressed in accordance with district policy.
A Note on Digital Citizenship
While the immediate threat has been cleared, this incident serves as a critical reminder of the importance of responsible digital citizenship. We strongly encourage parents to engage in conversations with their children regarding:
Safety Risks: The inherent dangers of contacting or engaging with unknown individuals.
Real-World Consequences: The legal and disciplinary ramifications of harassing or "prank" communications.
Community Impact: How individual digital actions can disrupt the safety and well-being of the entire school community.
The safety of our campus remains our highest priority. We appreciate your patience and extend our gratitude to the Andrew County Sheriff’s Office for their rapid response and assistance in resolving this matter safely.

This morning, a threat was reported by students via a cell phone while on the bus. Upon receiving this information, the district immediately initiated a soft lockdown. This means that no one was allowed to enter or leave the building during that time as a precautionary measure.
We are working closely with the Andrew County Sheriff’s Office to investigate the situation thoroughly. At this time, there is NO danger to students or staff, and safety remains our highest priority.
We will continue to monitor the situation and take all necessary steps to ensure a secure environment for everyone. If there are any updates, we will communicate them promptly.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

From the moment you walk through our doors, these two amazing women are often the first smiles you see and the steady hands that keep everything running smoothly. They support our students, comfort our littlest learners, assist our parents, keep our teachers on track, and help our administrators stay organized (which is no small task!).
Their days are filled with a thousand moving pieces—phone calls, paperwork, bandaids, hugs, schedules, and problem-solving—and they handle it all with grace, patience, and care.
We are so grateful for the way they serve our ACES family and our entire community. Today, and every day, we thank you for the difference you make! 💐
