Avenue City Preschool is officially preparing for the future, announcing that applications for the 2026-2027 school year is open NOW for current students and will open on February 4, 2026 for new students.
"At Avenue City School District, we believe that purposeful, play-based learning is the most effective way to spark curiosity and build a lifelong foundation for success," said Superintendent Rebecca Grimes. "Our program ensures that students engage in hands-on exploration that naturally fosters social skills, problem-solving, and critical thinking. Even though we haven’t had much snow this year, our Pre-K students are still exploring what animals do in winter! They’ve been busy building bear caves, learning how blubber helps keep bears warm, and discovering all about hibernation and animal habitats.
ACES will NOT be in session Monday, January 19, 2026.
In music class, our students are learning rhythms. Keeping a steady beat helps build focus, listening skills, and coordination. Clapping, tapping, and playing rhythms also strengthen math skills like counting and patterns, while encouraging teamwork and creativity.

ACES students participated in this important learning, focusing on recognizing warning signs, building coping skills, and knowing how and where to ask for help. We are proud to support the whole child—academically, emotionally, and socially—and to ensure our students know they are never alone.

Did your child get a technology device for a gift over the holidays? We are learning more and more about the impacts of technology on the minds of children. Our staff is committed to ongoing learning about how to best support today’s students, and we invite parents to join us in our current book study, The Anxious Generation.
The book highlights how childhood has shifted from real-world play and face-to-face interaction to smartphones and social media—changes closely linked to rising anxiety, depression, and disengagement in children and teens. While we often protect kids physically, fewer boundaries are sometimes set online.
The author calls for a shared effort: delaying smartphones and social media, creating phone-free spaces, and encouraging more independence and real-life experiences. Together, families and schools can help restore healthy development, resilience, and connection.
This is a MUST READ for every parent!
